Flexibility and scalability of Lawson applications to help accommodate regional health system’s growth strategies
ST. PAUL, Minn.--Lawson Software (Nasdaq:LWSN) today announced that Heartland Health licensed the Lawson S3 Human Capital Management, Enterprise Financial Management and Supply Chain Management Suites in Lawson’s first quarter of fiscal 2008, which ended Aug. 31, 2007. The regional health system will use the applications to help increase operational efficiencies by replacing its homegrown business systems, improving data access and enabling greater visibility across financial, purchasing and workforce management processes.
Located in St. Joseph, Mo., Heartland Health is an integrated health delivery system that includes a medical center, physician practices, a foundation and a health plan. Heartland employs more than 3,000 people and serves residents of 21 counties in northwest Missouri, northeast Kansas and southeast Nebraska.

As Heartland’s pace of growth accelerated, along with its expanding use of technology, the functionality of the organization’s homegrown business system could not support evolving business needs. For example, lack of integration across departments caused duplicate information in multiple systems and the requirement to keep those multiple systems in sync, increasing time spent on administrative tasks.
Key benefits Heartland expects to achieve using Lawson applications include reducing the time and effort needed for monthly general ledger closing and preparation of consolidated financial reports, and minimizing the need for information technology (IT) resources to maintain connections from “feeder” applications − such as payroll, accounts payable and purchasing − into the general ledger. In addition, the new Lawson system will provide self-service capabilities to employees and managers, helping to reduce the burden of routine administrative tasks on Human Resources department staff. Finally, by consolidating Heartland’s core human resources, supply chain and financial systems in one system, the Lawson applications will help Heartland simplify ongoing system support and maintenance.
