Bellisio Foods Taps Adalis to Meet Wal-Mart Packaging Scorecard Requirements

The Parent Company of Michelina's Frozen Entrées and Snacks Leverages Adalis Packaging Expertise to Fulfill Retail Sustainability Initiative

VANCOUVER, Wash.--Adalis Corporation, a global packaging and supply chain solutions company, today announced that it has partnered with Bellisio Foods, the parent company of Michelinas brand of frozen entrees and snacks. Adalis provided packaging consulting services to help the national food company meet the requirements of the Wal-Mart Sustainable Packaging Scorecard, which was established by the retailer as part of its environmental initiative to achieve a five percent reduction in packaging.

Adalis assisted Bellisio Foods with documentation and completion of its sustainability scorecards in a timely fashion to date. Adalis packaging engineers helped determine the product volume (PV), selling unit cube utilization (SUCU), and transport packaging cube utilization (TCU) for each of Bellisios Michelinas branded products sold at Wal-Mart. The PV, SUCU, and TCU are key measures needed to input data into the scorecard, directly affecting the total weighted score. As of February 1, 2008, Wal-Mart will begin using the packaging scorecard within its entire supply chain to measure each companys ability to use less packaging, utilize more effective materials in packaging and source materials more efficiently relative to other suppliers.

The packaging scorecard is a significant initiative that will ultimately help build a more sustainable supply chain and bring increased accountability to brand owners and suppliers of products to Wal-Mart, said Kalo Amundson, Director of Wal-Mart Operations, Bellisio Foods.
